Tootsie Roll Commercial- 1969

From the beginning of this commercial it becomes apparent to the viewer that its target audience is young children. How do we know this? We can gather this from the bright colours and cartoon animals. This advert in particular, in my eyes, is very clever as its purpose is to make people want to buy the product and it does exactly that in a unique way. The advert consists of a young child asking various animated animals ‘how many licks of a tootsie pop does it take to get to the centre?’. None of the animals know as they say they cannot get to it without biting through. This may seem like a wacky sketch, but what it does is encourages people to find out, like a challenge. People will see this and see if they can get to the centre without biting.
