What Went Well

In our film task, we decided to make the genre a horror theme. The goal from the start was to achieve an atmosphere of a thriller/horror film by making a 90 second movie about a necklace being placed in someone’s bag, which leads to a series of supernatural happenings. I believe we achieved this goal, but not to the full extent. We managed to create a spooky atmosphere by having the very minimum amount of background people, to create an isolated feeling. This was one of the key factors that allowed us to put this in the horror genre. Another thing that shaped up nicely, was the editing process. This includes the opening credits, ‘merging’ the clips together with fades and using Adobe Audition to edit the character’s voices and sound effects to suit the flow of the film. Not only did this build on our film, but it made it look that little bit more professional considering it is in the low budget film category. In terms of camera angles and skills, I think we have improved efficiently, because the shots all came together under the same flow. On shot that I think suited the film the most, was when the camera zoomed into the necklace being put into the bag, but again this could be improved.

What Could have been Improved

The camera shots were one of the things that I believe did not aid the film to the full extent, because some did not suit the situation, and a couple of times I noticed the zooms were a little to jumpy, such as the classroom scene. These are things that can easily be improved by pre-planning and over-viewing. Another thing I will be noting down for next time, is focus and ‘noisiness’ because a couple of our scenes were a little too noisy. These could have been improved by evaluating the light in the shot. Going back to the editing process, although it was good considering the knowledge we had, I believe that it could have been sufficiently improved by syncing it all in a bit better, as I noticed a scene where you could just see that the main actor was stationary before walking, which wasn’t the intention. Also, finally, some of the dialogue was extremely un-proportioned in terms of sound, as it jumps out. this is the classroom scene.

Main Targets

·         Pre plan camera shots to prevent noisiness.

·         Put more effort into the editing process.

·         Be more careful when recording clips that contain sound.

·         Try to achieve the genre of the film so it is more obvious what it is.
        Bear in mind the lighting being let into the shot, to be aware of noisiness in the shot.
